Sore Baby Bums - What to Do?

I realize my posts have not been the most inspirational lately, but I am really struggling with Rosie's diaper rash right now! Rosie has never had a rash like this. She's had little diaper rashes before but they usually go away after a bath or a little cream. This one covers almost her entire bottom, it's completely raw, it's been here for two days now and she SCREAMS every time I go to change it. I even gave her tylenol this morning to help with the pain. Besides diaper rash cream, have you guys found any other home remedies that really help diaper rashes? I can use all the help I can get! I have read online that Vaseline helps a lot. Have you guys ever tried anything else? Almost any advice would help at this point...

  1. Yikes Sar - Sounds awful. Livvy had a bad one last spring - blisters and all. What helped her was to just let her bum dry out really good - no diaper. We laid her down to watch TV with blankets underneath her. She had a few accidents that way (put the plastic changing pad under the blanket), but I could tell it felt better when we simply let her bum air out (especially after a bath). That might be a little harder b/c Rosie is more mobile than Olivia was at the time, so it may not be as doable. After it is aired out really well, maximum strength Desitin works best too - other diaper creams just don't cut it in my opinion.

  2. Thanks, Lizzy! I got your text about the neosporin, and I've been trying that that the last couple of times and it seems to work really well. Last I got a home-remedy off the internet that a nurse practitioner came up with. You combine equal parts neosporin, lotrimin anit-fungal cream, maalox antacid, and zinc oxide diaper cream. I tried it on her diaper change last night and it's already gone down a lot. It's like half the size as it was last night! She seems to be doing better. I gave her two baths yesterday, and that seemed to help.
Thank you so much for the advice, I should have just texted you instead of putting it up here :)

  3. No way! Putting it up here is great! Now for Blake's next bad rash I can come look up your "secret recipe". My pediatrician also recommended Bab Balm. It's like vaseline but it works a ton better in my opinion. Blake just got over a really bad rash and I used desitin for a few days and nothing. Then after 24 hours of the bag balm it was almost totally cleared up. But your mixture sounds super powerful too!

  4. Sorry, I was wrong before. It's equal parts lotrimin anit-fungal cream, zinc oxide diaper rash cream (A+D), neosporin, and MYLANTA ANTACID.
