I had a reminder this last weekend about how great it is to be a mom, especially for these first few years of their lives.
I went to a health seminar thing with Lauren Hill (I always forget her new last name), and they had a hypnotherapist come and speak for a bit. It was actually really interesting! He talked about the mind, and how before the age of 8 we have one mind - there is no subconscious and conscious. So everything they experience is their reality. Then, around the age of 8 our mind splits into two, giving us the subconscious mind, which is our belief system that guides us the rest of our lives. How crucial these years are for our little ones! He also said in his years of practicing hypnotherapy, most of people's dysfunctions in life are related to a lack or imbalance of three things: Love, Affection and Approval. To think it is the first 8 years of their life that truly lays the foundation for their belief system for the rest of their lives is a little daunting, yet exciting. It's exciting to me because I know that is the time of their life when I have the most influence. It is the time of their life that I am one of their sole providers of everything they need, and they actually look to me for those things and not friends! AND, it makes me SO excited to wake up every day and just LOVE them, and wrap my arms around them, and tell them how awesome they are. After Rosie finished singing "twinkle twinkle little star" for the fiftieth time today, I said, "Rosie, you're so awesome!" She replied, "Ya! Hi-five, Mommy!" This took place while she was in the swing in our back yard, so here's a visual:
All my sisters, and my Mom, are such good examples of showing their children Love, Affection and Approval. You are all such positive influences, I can't thank you enough for being lighthouses in my life.
